From 5 Star restaurants to three-table shops with delectable pulled pork, you’ll never run out of dining choices. Of course, you can dine on seafood caught only hours before and Island-raised premium steaks. Everyone eventually has a special night at Alan Wong’s and Orchids. From Waikiki to the North Shore, everyone seems to find one or two “undiscovered” favorites, such as the Alley at Aiea Bowl. Many transplants visit the Dixie Diner every few weeks for a taste of mainland comfort food.

While one of the necessary evils of life on modern Oahu is its freeway system, it does serve to keep all points readily accessible. However, more than in most cities, this is one place where public transportation works well. TheBus serves the entire island and is relatively inexpensive. You can get to all the popular attractions for just $2.50 a trip.

One of the oldest malls in the country, Ala Moana Mall has been continually updated and remains the premier mall in the Islands, with a large selection of items serving tourists. Additional shopping locations and boutique shops are scattered throughout the island, with Pearlridge Center serving the Aiea area, with its offerings focused on locals and residents. Many residents appreciate the Waikele Premium Outlets as one way to control the higher costs that are a part of living in Hawaii.

A special treat for residents of Aiea and the entire island is the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet located in the city, open on Wednesday, Saturdays and Sundays. It has an amazing assortment of bargains, treasures and oddities. Whether you’re shopping to stock your pantry or taking your visitors out for unique mementos in the famous Chinatown area, you’ll find plenty of places for endless shopping.
