Aquia Harbour provides a safe and fun atmosphere to its residents. There is a variety of activities that residents can become involved in that are included in HOA fees, including golf, horseback riding, and community center. However, be aware of limited access points into the neighborhood and know the protocols for adverse weather.

Employment in the area is decent. Not many career jobs here but still a few. Stafford is mostly a commuter city. Most of the people living here work for the military or government. That means most people work in D.C. and surrounding areas, and Quantico. Part time work can easily be found here.

History

Evidence of Aquia Harbour's earliest days can still be discovered. Many residents and developers have uncovered artifacts such as arrowheads and spear points that date back as early as 8,000 BC. During the 1800s, the Civil War ravaged the homes and churches. Today's gated community began development during the 1960s. It steadily grew, expanding from 11 homes and families in the early 1970s to more than 3,000 homes in the 21st century.

Nearby art galleries include Bluebird Stained Glass Studio in Stafford, a town that also hosts a significant Aquia Church, a historic landmark. Now an Episcopal church, the Church of England established this former Anglican place of worship in 1757.

Residents come together several times a year at community events such as its annual spring cleanup day, community yard sale and Marina Fest. Other nearby events include the Stafford County Agricultural Fair.

Although the area has plenty of chain restaurants to choose from, its local establishments really make the Aquia Harbour dining scene unique. Most of the eateries and hot spots reside in Stafford Marketplace, in Aquia Towne Center or along Jefferson Davis Highway.

From authentic Afghan cuisine to upscale Italian or casual American fare, the area is sure to provide something to suit your mood. For the best kabobs in all of Northern Virginia, visit Kabob Corner. The flavorful marinated beef, chicken and lamb kabobs slowly cook over a tandoori flame before being served on a bed of rice with crisp naan and your choice of side dishes, including chickpeas, spinach or a salad.

The live piano music at Zibibbo 73 Trattoria & Wine Bar creates a relaxing, inviting ambiance. This upscale Italian restaurant features traditional appetizers, such as skillet-roasted mussels and fried rice croquettes, in addition to a raw bar with local oysters, Blue Point oysters and Maryland clams. Dinner specialties include branzino in a Salmoriglio sauce, lamb ossobuco and grilled rib-eye steaks.

When it comes to nightlife, Aquia Harbour residents can choose from a variety of activities in the area, including catching a movie at the Regal movie theater on Jefferson Davis Highway or stopping into one of the local hot spots. Bella Cafe hosts live entertainment Monday through Saturday in addition to serving fabulous menu items ranging from comforting portobello and brie bisque and croissant burgers to hot coffee and icy cold brain freezes. This funky hangout also displays local artwork that's for sale. Another laid-back option, Embassy Cigar Lounge, specializes in providing a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere to sit back and enjoy a cigar, cocktail and light bite.

Frederickburg Regional Transit services the area with bus service at stops such as Aquia Towne Center, Aquia Medical Center, Stafford Market Place and Brafferton Shopping Center. Virginia Railway Express provides commuter rail service into and Crystal City, Alexandria, Quantico and Washington, DC, from its Brooke Road station in Stafford

Most residents drive a private car or carpool to work. Aquia Harbour's proximity to major roadways makes commuting a relatively easy proposition. US Route 1 runs north and south, offering an alternative to Interstate 95, which connects the area with points south, such as Fredericksburg or Richmond, and points north such as Washington, DC, and Baltimore.

On a nice day, you’ll most likely see many of your neighbors out and about walking and biking on community roadways. Pedestrians and cyclists may also take advantage of community walking and biking trails such as the one that can be accessed in Briar Patch Park.

Part of Aquia Harbour's charm lies in its outdoor recreation, including its access to Aquia Creek, which provides excellent fishing and boating opportunities. The creek opens up to the mighty and scenic Potomac River, which features numerous historic sites and recreational spots. The community marina hosts its annual Marina Festival in September.

Buy a resident pass for access to the community pool, located at the country club. The community also features nine free parks, each of which welcomes leashed pets. Let the kids blow off steam at parks such as Peace Park or Aquia Park, which provide playground equipment. Brent Park features tennis and basketball courts, while the covered pavilion and grills at Lions Park make it the ideal spot for a picnic. Briar Patch Park features several sports fields, paved walking trails, a pedestrian bridge and access to a walking and cycling trail.

Although it’s generally pricier than the national average, the cost of living in Aquia Harbour looks relatively inexpensive when compared to most of the greater Washington, DC, metropolitan area. Housing costs are more reasonably priced here than in the city. For example, one-bedroom apartment rentals go for a median price of $1,198.

Commuters have the added benefits of low gasoline prices. Area gas prices hover 5 to 6 percent below the national average, although you can expect to pay higher prices as your drive closer to Interstate 95. In general, you'll pay up to $10 for a cocktail in some of the pricier joints in the neighborhood. Try hitting a budget-friendly happy hour for a pint of draft beers for affordable prices of $1 to $3. A one-way fare on a FRED bus costs $1, while a one-way ticket on Virginia Railway costs up to $10.40.

You can't find better outlet shopping in Virginia than Potomac Mills, the largest outlet mall in the state, located just 16 miles north of Aquia Harbour in Woodbridge. Not only can you get your nails done or grab a bite to eat here but the mall also houses a variety of restaurants and stores, including high-end shops such as BCBG, Michael Kors and Saks Fifth Avenue.

When you're looking for a more unique shopping experience, check out a few of the area's specialty stores, such as Boswells Corner Antiques and Decor. This charming antique shop carries unique jewelry, home decor and furniture. Reasonably priced merchandise and friendly service make this local gem worth the visit. Whether you need a special gift or a new accessory, Princess Jewelry carries a variety of jewelry and collectibles that might fit the bill. Choose from merchandise such as silver and gold chains, pocket watches, engagement rings, wedding rings, and earrings. In addition the shop sells collectible figurines made by Lladro, Leno, and Nao.

Aquia Harbour residents can choose from a standard selection of grocery stores, including Giant, Food Lion and Aldi, which features discount groceries. Nearby farmers markets include North Stafford Farmers Market on Hospital Center Boulevard, which was the first farmers market in the state. This locally owned market prides itself on selling only fresh farm products. The Fredericksburg Farmers Market on Prince Edward Street also specializes in fresh fruits, veggies, herbs, flowers and locally made products such as breads and jams.
