Located in northeast Texas near the Arkansas border and about 22 miles southwest of Texarkana, Atlanta is a small city that was established in 1871. Many of the early settlers came from Atlanta, Georgia, and they named their new Texas home in its honor. Today, people seeking a natural setting filled with trees, rivers, and lakes find Atlanta a terrific option. Many of the shops, restaurants, and businesses are located in the heart of the city, extending from Main Street north along Louise Street. Enjoy the sunny weather at Atlanta City Park, a historic park with a playground, and an amphitheater. For boating and fishing, residents head to Atlanta State Park, located on Wright Patman Lake.
