Avondale used to be a very bad neighborhood but it has gentrified a lot and it is right next to Logan square so both areas are up and becoming more trendy every year. Still the neighborhood is not too safe and it has its down sides. There are no active shootings anymore but there are a lot of spray paint tags, loud mariachi music, and fireworks, also neighbors may smoke weed and cigarettes on there porch. A perk is it is right next to logan square which is full of trendy businesses and restaurants. Plus it is close to the highway and the blue-line.

I have lived in Avondale for 12 years. I have seen the neighborhood change, for the good as well as the bad. There has been a lot of new business and newly developed housing. However, there has also been a major growth in the homeless population. I don't feel unsafe because of the crime rate. However, I feel unsafe because I live and work in the neighborhood, and I witness firsthand the drug use and paraphernelia littering the area. I often walk out of my home to find a syringe lying on the ground. On a weekly basis I have to call the police to remove people from my workplace because of drug use and/or stealing. Overall, Avondale is not a bad neighborhood, but there needs to be something done about the aforementioned homeless community.

The Avondale neighborhood is a very nice and affordable area that is close to transportation, safe, and full of restaurants. It's not a flashy entertainment destination but it is a diverse, working-class neighborhood.

My neighborhood has been better than before. Theirs more a community than before. Some of the Neighbors at times come together and have BBQ etc. They watch over one another. Which is great. Its more peaceful than before.
