To the east of the Lincoln township, the community of Bethany Heights was incorporated and platted in 1886. The Nebraska Christian College, later called Cotner College, was located in the area from 1888 until the Great Depression era, when it folded. A street car, completed during the last decade of the 19th century, linked Bethany with the urban core of Lincoln. Today, the neighborhood is adjacent to two art facilities, the Lux Center for the Arts and the Elder Art Gallery, and two museums, the Larson Tractor Museum and the International Quilt Museum.
