History

DUMBO, otherwise known as Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, connects the Manhattan Bridge and Brooklyn Bridge areas to the Vinegar Hill area. The western section, known as Fulton Landing, was the manufacturing center for paper boxes and machinery. Artists moved to the neighborhood in the 1970s, and today the neighborhood has been designated as a historical district of New York City. DUMBO also houses roughly 25 percent of all tech firms in the city.

The Brooklyn Historical Society houses a museum, library and art gallery as well as ever-changing exhibits throughout the year. BLDG 92 showcases the maritime history of the Brooklyn Naval Yard from the Revolutionary War to present.

The September Brooklyn Book Festival brings in best-selling authors and publishers every year. Featuring authors everywhere you look, this free venue has become one of the biggest and best book festivals in the country.
