Bucktown is one of Chicago’s trendiest neighborhoods, and it’s more affordable than nearby neighborhoods. It’s just a few miles northwest of downtown Chicago and is bordered by the Chicago River on the east. Kennedy Expressway (I-94) runs right through the neighborhood, giving residents easy access to the Chicago area and beyond. Public transportation is extensive, and the neighborhood is walkable and filled with shopping, dining, and artsy entertainment. There’s a great selection of live music, art exhibits, live theater, and themed bars. A ton of restaurants offer a variety of food from different cultures.
If you’re looking for family fun in Bucktown, there are plenty of public parks available for the community, such as Holstein Park, Churchill Park, and Ehrler Park. Amenities include open green space, swimming pools, ball fields, and more. The Bloomingdale Trail, also known as “The 606,” runs for nearly three miles on an abandoned elevated rail line on the south end of Bucktown, perfect for a walk or morning jog. There’s a mix of public, private, and charter schools in this family-friendly, affordable neighborhood.

Bucktown is a wonderful neighborhood full of great local restaurants and businesses. It's easy to feel a sense of community and access to the 606 makes a big difference in being able to stay active in the city. The safety of Bucktown has drastically declined over the last few years, but I see this as a side effect of general systemic and social instability post-pandemic.

I adore Bucktown, Chicago. This neighborhood is packed with a variety of individuals, couples, families, and more. I love the small business shops lining Damen Avenue along with the 606 entrance on the same street. The rent is affordable and the nightlife is plentiful, but not too invasive.

Great hood, if expensive. My wife and I have lived here since '96. Lots of great old homes, lots of fancy new ones. You can walk to everything. There must be fifty restaurants within hoofing distance. And there's a surprising number of young families here despite the high priced real estate. The only downside is the high cost of living, fueled by high property taxes and a city and county government rife with corruption and incompetence.

While this is certainly a large city and there is lot's of opportunity, the nation-wide epidemic of the disappearing middle-class and the "educated-poor" is just as prevelant here as anywhere. Many young people find themselves working low paying jobs in and out of their chosen field because that's all that is available to them in this country.
