Military Marine Base Coast Southern California

Established in 1942, Camp Pendleton sprawls along 125,000 acres in Southern California and includes 17 miles of coastline. The popular city of Oceanside borders Camp Pendleton to the south. As the largest Marine Corps Base training facility on the West Coast, the daytime population swells to about 100,000. The base is home to several units, including the 1st Marine Division, the I Marine Expeditionary Force, and the 1st Marine Logistics Group.

Camp Pendleton is roughly 38 miles from Downtown San Diego and about 80 miles from LA. Being so close to the heart of the film industry, Camp Pendleton is a popular filming location. It has been featured in movies like Pearl Harbor (2001), Heartbreak Ridge (1986), and Sands of Iwo Jima (1949). Camp Pendleton is a self-contained community, but most of the off-base housing can be found in neighboring Oceanside.
