This is a great place to retire- a lot of the residents in this neighborhood are older. Growing up here there were not many neighbors that had kids my age, but other than that the quiet atmosphere was wonderful

This area does have its problems with crime but it is usually only reoccurring in the same houses. Although these houses have their problems I still feel very safe and comfortable with my neighbors.

I have lived in this area for about 17 years and I have to say that it is a great area for middle class people to start a family and start getting into the housing market. There is a wide variety of people that live in this area that come from many different background and the atmosphere is overall friendly.

Living in Creston

History

-

Settled in the mid-1800s, Creston originally attracted a large population of Irish, German, Polish and Dutch immigrants looking to fulfill the American dream in the Midwest. The area was once an industrial hub in the Grand Rapids area, but it later transformed into a primarily residential neighborhood. Many of the homes lining the streets still reflect the area's original heritage, while a host of others sprang up during the housing boom of the 1950s.

Creston lies just minutes from downtown Grand Rapids, the city's cultural center with a collection of museums like the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts. For a taste of community culture, don't miss annual events like the Art Battle for Community and the Aberdeen Celebration.

Locals flock to La Huasteca to savor some of the most satisfying tostadas, dry burritos and steak tacos in western Michigan. Order a cheap side of chips and salsa for a fresh and spicy crowd-pleaser. You can even choose from American- or Mexican-style tacos to keep everyone in your party satisfied. Street parking can be tough to find, so pull around to the back for more spaces.

When you crave a breakfast plate or a homemade shake with whipped cream and a cherry on top, stop into The Cheshire Grill. The old-school diner decor enchants you as you walk in, and the Cheshire Skillet never disappoints with its mix of red potatoes, onions, cheese and peppers piled beneath home-style sausage gravy.

Don't miss out on the iconic burger joint Fat Boy Burgers for some of the best cheeseburgers in town along with phenomenal crinkle fries. Since its opening, this retro diner has maintained its 1950s feel with original neon sign and all. This place only takes cash, but an ATM rests right inside the restaurant, so you can savor some fresh onion rings without heading to the bank.
