History

Curtis history began with the city of San Bernardino, known as the "Valley of the Cupped Hand of God" by the indigenous people, which was first settled by Spanish missionaries in the 19th century. It was officially incorporated as a city in 1857, shortly after it was settled by Mormon pioneers in 1851. The city continued to develop and prosper as gold was discovered in nearby Holcomb Valley, bringing in more residents. With the introduction of the railroad, more new jobs were generated, and the population continued to expand.

The City of San Bernardino hosts an array of festivals and events year-round. Calico Days stands out as one of the more popular events, which celebrates San Bernardino’s rich history. Festivities include a miner’s triathlon and a burro race.

Curtis lies in northwest San Bernardino off of West 5th Street. It should only take around 5 minutes to drive to the center of San Bernardino from Curtis via West 5th Street. Public, on-street parking proves available throughout the neighborhood.

There exists only one designated bike lane in Curtis along West 5th Street. Due to its central location, Curtis remains easily accessible on foot.

Omnitrans provides public transport to the Curtis area. They provide several public bus routes that go throughout San Bernardino and connect to outlying areas.
