During the American Revolution, General George Washington and his troops encamped in Dobbs Ferry. The Mead House, built in 1855, is now home to the Dobbs Ferry Historical Society. The society hosts community events, such as the Annual Road to Freedom Walk, which follows the route of the Continental Army through the area -- complete with reenactors
