Situated in the southwest corner of the bustling borough of Brooklyn in New York City, Dyker Heights is an affluent urban neighborhood that stands out from the rest. Though it’s considered an urban neighborhood, Dyker Heights’ variety of apartments, townhomes, and detached houses for rent give it a somewhat suburban feel, considering more urban neighborhoods in NYC lack detached homes.
Mature trees, community parks, and a family-friendly atmosphere add to the laid-back culture of this neighborhood. As a community-focused area, residents feel safe in their homes and appreciate the walkability of the neighborhood.
With nearby subway and bus stations, as well as proximity to major interstates, Dyker Heights is a great place to live for convenience and commuting purposes. Enjoy athletic fields, tennis courts, open green space, and walking trails at McKinley Park, or visit the popular Dyker Beach Golf Course to practice your swing. This sprawling course lies in the south end of town overlooking Gravesend Bay.
Dyker Heights boasts various retailers and restaurants, but if you’re looking for a greater variety, visit one of the numerous nearby areas. Just take Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge to reach Staten Island, or travel northeast about eight miles to reach Downtown Brooklyn, and another six miles northeast to access Midtown Manhattan!
As of March 2025, the average apartment rent in Dyker Heights is $1,423 for a studio, $1,566 for one bedroom, and $1,980 for two bedrooms. Apartment rent in Dyker Heights has increased by 0.8% in the past year.

It is quiet and clean. Most neighbors are not a disturbance and are friendly. Transportation is very accessible.

It is very calm, family friendly, and safe neighborhood. Has many bakeries and asian eateries. The N train comes farely regularly and has easy access to buses that leave you in Bay Ridge. The houses are decorated well during the holiday season and it gives a very "home" feel.

Some avenues are really nice, other blocks not so much. A lot of Italians. Neighbors are also not the friendliest but it's Brooklyn, what do you expect?

Dyker Heights is overall a safe and family-friendly neighborhood. It is mostly residential but is great for families to visit during the holidays when houses are beautifully decorated for Christmas.
