Situated in the southwest corner of the bustling borough of Brooklyn in New York City, Dyker Heights is an affluent urban neighborhood that stands out from the rest. Though it’s considered an urban neighborhood, Dyker Heights’ variety of apartments, townhomes, and detached houses for rent give it a somewhat suburban feel, considering more urban neighborhoods in NYC lack detached homes.
Mature trees, community parks, and a family-friendly atmosphere add to the laid-back culture of this neighborhood. As a community-focused area, residents feel safe in their homes and appreciate the walkability of the neighborhood.
With nearby subway and bus stations, as well as proximity to major interstates, Dyker Heights is a great place to live for convenience and commuting purposes. Enjoy athletic fields, tennis courts, open green space, and walking trails at McKinley Park, or visit the popular Dyker Beach Golf Course to practice your swing. This sprawling course lies in the south end of town overlooking Gravesend Bay.
Dyker Heights boasts various retailers and restaurants, but if you’re looking for a greater variety, visit one of the numerous nearby areas. Just take Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge to reach Staten Island, or travel northeast about eight miles to reach Downtown Brooklyn, and another six miles northeast to access Midtown Manhattan!
As of January 2025, the average apartment rent in Dyker Heights is $1,420 for a studio, $1,564 for one bedroom, and $1,976 for two bedrooms. Apartment rent in Dyker Heights has increased by 0.7% in the past year.

Dyker Heights is a good neighborhood to grow up in, and it has good public schools nearby. It's relatively safe, and a lot of surrounding stores and places to explore.

Can get noisy at night because of fireworks all year round. Fireworks goes off a lot more during the summer and on holidays. Fireworks tend to go off until 3am on New Years Eve, Memorial weekend, July 4th and Chinese New Year.

I've been living here for over a decade. It is a very family friendly neighborhood with fantastic public schools. There are three public buses in the region and a D train stop. Night life is non existent and single family homes are expensive.
