History

-

The East De Pere community lies in the outer east section of De Pere, Wisconsin, a city that was discovered during the late 1600s by a French explorer named Pere Claude-Jean Allouez. Allouez founded a mission on the final stretch of rapids on the Fox River, naming the area Rapids De Peres. The city grew considerably when it merged with its neighbors on the west side of the Fox River, creating a single community.

In 1993, the De Pere Lock and Dam Historic District was established to preserve the remaining river locks that connects the Mississippi River with the Great Lakes of the Midwest. The White Pillars Museum, originally built in 1836 and De Pere's oldest building, features historic artifacts and art restorations from the early days of De Pere, as well as hosts multiple annual events such as the Holiday Antique Show and Sale.
