Since I am not far from the city, crime can often be a concern, but the police are very responsive and I feel like I live in a safe neighborhood.

It's good for average, middle class people. It's also a decent city to raise a family in. I plan on moving to a large metropolitan city, so living here long term is not for me.

It depends on the area. Most of the suburbs and countryside are safe; the inner city is pretty bad for crime.
