History

Manchester Township, home of Emigsville, was originally part of Lancaster County. Thomas Cookson, a representative of Lancaster County, laid out the township in 1742. English Quakers settled the township, and German immigrants later settled the area as an agricultural community.

York County, formerly part of Lancaster County, was created in 1749 and York still serves as the County Seat for York County. The Second Continental Congress adopted the Articles of Confederation in York County 1777.

Emigsville hosts the Emig Mansion, built in 1850 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which now operates as a bed and breakfast. Just across Interstate 83 from Emgisville, you'll find another site in Manchester Township listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Sinking Springs Farms. Sinking Springs has a historic farm, a historic district that includes 23 buildings and 17 supporting structures, including the Manor House Demesne.

Dawn's My Favorite Deli in Emigsville has been operating in Emigsville for over 20 years. Serving quality food in a relaxed atmosphere, Dawn's My Favorite Deli specializes in breakfast and lunch item. Made exclusively from scratch, local favorites include the steak, onion, mushroom and cheese omelet; the Buckin' Bronco panini, with roast beef, bacon, cheddar cheese, sauteed onion and barbecue sauce; and deli sandwiches such as the grilled Reuben sandwich. The interior of the deli provides comfortable table and bar seating, and patrons can also sit at picnic tables outside. Dawn's My Favorite Deli also provides catering services for local events. For nightlife options, the Knotty Pine Tavern provides a favorite spot for locals to enjoy some drinks, watch sporting events on the big screen TVs and play pool. Drink specials, a full bar, pool tournaments, live DJs and a bar food menu help to make this a local favorite. Located on N. George Street and one of the only bars in Emigsville, just look for the neon beer signs in the windows to signal that you're at the Knotty Pine Tavern. Residents can also take the short trip to downtown York to enjoy a variety of entertainment options.

Interstate 83 acts as the western boundary of the Emigsville area, with highway interchanges on the north and south ends of Emigsville, providing convenient highway access for regional or national travel. Route 181, also known as North George Street, that connects York and York Haven runs through the middle of Emigsville, creating the main commercial corridor in the area.

Rabbittransit, the public transportation system for York County, runs several express bus routes that service Emigsville and Emigsville hosts a park-and-ride parking lot for rabbittransit buses. York County taxicab companies such as D&L Cab Co. and Taxi Express provide service to Emigsville. Service is available on call, or use your smartphone to request an Uber driver.

Emigsville Park, the Township’s Recreation Facilities covering 5 acres, features a baseball field, tennis courts, basketball courts and sand volleyball courts. Children love the toddler playground equipment, and a picnic pavilion provides facilities for picnics and get-togethers. The Emigsville Recreation Building, with a capacity of up to 80 people, can be rented for special events.

For more acreage, the John C. Rudy County Park lies just over 1 mile from Emigsville Park just outside of Emigsville. With over 150 acres, the park boasts a 5K cross-country running course, a 2-mile multipurpose trail for biking, hiking, jogging and rollerblading as well as a BMX track. Sand volleyball courts and horseshoe pits are free to use and softball fields and soccer fields are available for a fee. Picnic pavilions can also be rented for a fee. Canine Meadows, a very popular off-leash dog area in the park, was named the 20th best dog park in the nation by Dog Fancy Magazine. Dogs must be licensed, vaccinated, wearing ID tags and healthy to use the park. Penn State also maintains a display garden in the park that showcases Pennsylvania’s premier plants and flowers.

Giant Food Stores, the closest major grocery store, lies approximately 3 miles outside of town on Route 181 heading north towards Manchester. Just 4 miles away, residents can shop at the Walmart Supercenter, located next to the Harley Davidson factory.
