History

The history of the area dates back to the late 19th century when the BBB & C railway began operating. In the early 20th century, the expansion of the rail system linking Los Angeles to New Orleans was largely responsible for the growth of the area. Though Houston was largely a rural territory, the railway brought opportunities in mining, manufacturing and oil drilling that aided the economic expansion of the area.The Nature Discovery Center in nearby Bellaire features free admission to the discovery rooms, which are filled with nature exhibits and activities for the whole family. Live animals, educational programs and the Ross Pitman Park are perfect for school-age children to get involved and experience something different.
