Fort Lewis, also known as Joint Base Lewis-McChord, is an expansive military base situated about 10 miles south of Tacoma. Named after Meriwether Lewis of the famous Lewis and Clark expedition, Fort Lewis is one of the country’s biggest and most modernized military bases.
