Garrison is a small hamlet in Putnam County in the southern region of New York State. This charming area is actually part of Philipstown and sits on the eastern bank of the Hudson River across from West Point and the West Point Academy, hence its military-inspired name. What residential space there is in Garrison is full of charming cottages and Victorian homes, many of which have been split into duplexes and separate apartments. Residents love the area’s relatively quiet atmosphere and the incredible, pristine nature that surrounds the Hudson. There are a few cafes and local pharmacies in Downtown Garrison, but this isn’t a bustling locale. It takes a few minutes’ drive along the state routes and U.S. Highway 9 near Garrison to be anywhere that could be deemed metropolitan, but most residents enjoy the peace and quiet of this untouched area.
