A bike-friendly community with eccentric street vibes and art – welcome to Grand!

Quirky Nightlife Bike-Friendly Restaurants Arizona

Grand’s unique neighborhood mapping is just as eccentric as the neighborhood itself. Unconventional bars, modern art studios, warehouses-turned-lofts, and quirky eateries make up this cool, off the beaten path Phoenix community.

Walking along the neighborhood’s colorful streets, you’ll probably notice streamers dangling from power lines, metallic pom-poms suspended from trees, and vibrant abstract quilts and stuffed animal toys fastened to electric poles and fences. This is Grand, and it’s as zany as some of the shops and nightlife that incorporate it, like Kooky Krafts gift shop and the Bikini Lounge bar.

This bike-friendly neighborhood consists of green bike paths that complement its street art. For food, locals enjoy the pies at the Grand Avenue Pizza Company and small plates at Irma’s Kitchen. Coffee and delectable pastries are abundant here.

History

-

Around 700 A.D., the Hohokam Native Americans occupied the land that would become Phoenix. The tribe created approximately 135 miles of irrigation canals. Paths to the canals marked the beginning of what later developed into the Central Arizona Project Canal, the Arizona Canal and the Hayden-Rhodes Aqueduct.

In 1867, Jack Swilling of Wickenburg, Arizona passed through the area and found great potential for farming. The former Confederate soldier had a series of canals built, and a nearby community formed about 4 miles east of modern-day Phoenix. After much debate between Swilling and other residents, the name Phoenix was chosen for the city.

The capital city boasts over 73 museums. The Musical Instruments Museum holds a proud heritage by celebrating musical arts. Each May, MIM hosts a Mother's Day brunch with prize giveaways.
