Just across the Willamette River to the east of Downtown Portland, Hosford-Abernethy is a charming urban locale that is one of the city’s most popular neighborhoods. This historic neighborhood encompasses several microneighborhoods including Ladd’s Addition, one of Portland’s – and the nation’s – oldest residential areas. Hosford-Abernethy’s microneighborhoods contribute to the area’s strong sense of community. The neighborhood association is active and locals look forward to the street festivals and parades that are held each year.
Hosford-Abernethy is known for its beautiful early 20th-century architectural styles but there are modern apartments available for rent as well. Rentals in this neighborhood are typically upscale, but there are moderate and even very affordable rates available as well. Similar to many Portland neighborhoods, Hosford-Abernethy is pedestrian and bicycle-friendly with a rail station and plenty of bike rail located in the neighborhood. The neighborhood is filled with trendy restaurants, coffee shops, breweries, bakeries, vintage shops, and comedy clubs. Hosford-Abernethy is also home to several museums and cultural centers including the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.
