History

-

The Belknap Mill Society Museum is the oldest unaltered brick textile mill in the United States, and was one of the first buildings to be listed on the new National Register of Historic Places in 1972. It's motto, "Where Art and History Come to Life" accurately reflects the museum's focus on showing the history of textiles in the region as it actually was, while being entertaining and educational at the same time. The building is four stories and includes a museum, an art gallery, a concert hall, and meeting spaces for special events. It's a popular gathering spot for local activities.

The Lake Winnipesaukee Historical Society Museum is open from June through October each year and is dedicated to preserving the history of the Laconia lakes region of New Hampshire. It has many permanent and traveling exhibits featuring artifacts and research from the area's past, as well as bingo on Tuesday and Saturday nights during the open season, and a fully stocked gift shop. The bingo and gift shop help the museum fund expansions and repairs to make it a better place to visit, and also provide opportunities for socializing with neighbors and visitors to the area in a fun environment.
