With its emerald landscape and sparkling lake, the picturesque city of Lake Mills provides the ideal blend of lakefront living and quick commutes into nearby Madison, located just 25 miles west. The western edge of the city borders Rock Lake, with three parks providing lake access. Sandy Beach has boat docks and a boat ramp, a sandy beach with pier, and picnic tables. This is a very popular destination in the summer months, attracting visitors from all over the Madison area.
The Glacial Drumlin State Trail extends through Lake Mills. This bike trail extends 52 miles from Waukesha to Cottage Grove. Whether on bike or on foot, this trail provides a fascinating landscape made up of drumlins (hills of rock that resemble teardrops, formed by glaciers as they move). Other great locations for enjoying the beautiful scenery include Bartel’s Beach, Lake Mills Golf Club, and the historic Aztalan State Park – an archaeological site and the location of Aztalan, a community of the Mississippian people from AD 1100-1250.
After a day enjoying the outdoor wonders of Lake Mills, head to any number of restaurants and breweries in the area. Local favorites include Lewis Station Winery, Tyranena Brewing Company, and Sunshine Brewing Company. You’ll find a variety of shops and businesses located throughout Lake Mills, especially along Main Street. Head east on I-94 to reach Johnson Creek Premium Outlets, or stay on I-94 for about 45 minutes to visit Milwaukee’s fantastic museums, theaters, and attractions.
