Living in Lyndon

History

-

Lyndon has a much longer history than its years as an incorporated area would suggest. Founded as far back at 1871, it did not become an official location until 1965. At incorporation in the middle of the 20th century, just 500 people inhabited the small town. The following growth came on the backs of added industry, major companies and the suburban sprawl of nearby Louisville.

To share the history of the community, the local government has restored the Romara Place for residents to explore. Once the home of the town founder, Alvin Wood, it now sits as a monument to the history of the town. For art galleries and theatre, residents head to nearby communities.

Locals don shorts and T-shirts to experience the Kentucky heat at the Lyndon Summer Festival. When the weather turns cold, Light Up Lyndon welcomes residents to enjoy the holiday season through the beautiful displays.

Restaurants

-

Despite its relatively small size, Lyndon hosts many restaurants and diners that feature cuisine from all over the world. The city manages to pack a wide variety of options into an area of just over 3 square miles. Easily find a place to satiate your appetite by traveling down New Legrange Road. Lyndon residents get their fill of Mexican food at Hay Chi Wa Waa. Start the meal with chili con queso and tableside guacamole. For an entree, nosh on chicken tacos el carbon or the beef flautas. Slurp on margaritas as you dine to cool down some of the spice, and have the traditional churros for an after-dinner treat.

For a taste of the Far East, ToGo Sushi serves up both traditional and speciality rolls. The available drive provides take-out, but this place also has cozy tables for dining inside. The crunch munch roll and the cardinal roll are favorites among regulars, and the Westport roll and happy roll also have a loyal following. Every meal comes with miso soup.

Indulging in local barbecue is a must, and places such as Jucy's Smokehouse Bar-B-Que serve tried-and-true staples with sweet sauce as well as side dishes that prove how comforting down-home cooking can be. Try the macaroni and cheese with the brisket or the pulled pork with a side of beans. Regulars always leave full after thoroughly enjoying the farm-like ambiance.

Nightlife in Lyndon revolves mostly around local bars and pubs, and not a lot of clubs or live music venues sit within the city limits. Places like Joe's Older Than Dirt provide the requisite local dive bar experience with inexpensive drinks and a bar menu for snacking, and Sal's Pizza and Pub dishes out generous slices along with inexpensive beer.

Ride shares like Uber also serve Louisville and may make the trip outside of the city limits. Public parking exists throughout the county for those with their own vehicle.
