History

-

MacArthur Heights is a neighborhood community located in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin, a suburb of Green Bay with a history dating back to the 1850s, when the area was first inhabited by American Indians. The U.S. Army purchased a large section of Green Bay, however, a small portion that belonged to the daughters of a Sioux Indian Chief Ashwaubamy remained under their ownership until the early 1900s. The name Aswaubenon means "a place where people stand guard and keep watch."

The Ashwaubenon Historical Society Museum features artwork by local artist Adolph Vandertie, as well as hosts multiple exhibits featuring historic pioneer artifacts, historic military documents of local veterans and early relics from Ashwaubenon's Broadway area. The museum also hosts an annual Memorial Day reception and a winter social gathering.
