History

The founding father of Millersville was a man named Peter Negley, who purchased land through a government grant for $300. The land when he purchased it was called Brubaker's Mill, and the official founding of the neighborhood did not occur until 1838 when the pieces of land started to be sold off to people who wanted to build homes and businesses.

In the summer, Millersville holds summer band concerts in a cafe market type setting. Here, residents can listen to live music, eat scrumptious food from one of the many food trucks and socialize with other members of the community. Tables and chairs sit under bright blue umbrellas to ensure a comfy spot to relax under the sun.

If what you're craving cannot be found directly in the neighborhood, more variety lies just a short drive away into the city or a surrounding neighborhood. Paco's Taqueria locates just off of Keystone Avenue and is always a neighborhood favorite. Just west of Millersville on North Keystone Avenue you will find The Mousetrap. This bar always brings in a large crowd with its cheap drinks and menu of burgers, wings, and pizza. People love The Mousetrap because of its wide variety of games to play like ping-pong, darts, pool and even board games for people to want a more relaxing night. People can watch sports games on any of their hanging TVs.

Residents of Millersville have the option of walking or biking places due to the sidewalks that connect the neighborhood. However, most people here choose to drive places. Getting to the middle of Indianapolis is never a problem because the neighborhood lies close to routes such as Interstate 69, Interstate 70 and Interstate 465. Another perk of living here includes that public parking can be found spread out through the area.

Do not worry if you don't have your own vehicle, because Millersville has great public transportation services, too. The Indianapolis Public Transportation Corporation, also known as IndyGo, has multiple bus routes that travel in and around the neighborhood. For residents who wish to run, bike or walk, Fall Creek Trail is the perfect solution. This seven-mile long trail passes 100-year-old bridges and parallels the waterway. While on this trail you will only hear the sounds of nature; other than that, the path is completely peaceful.

Right above Fall Creek Road lies Skiles Test Nature Park. Although this park does not copy the typical park layout with playgrounds and picnic benches, Skiles has 80 acres of land for kids to run around in. The land allows residents to observe nature in ways such as bird watching and exploring the few miles of trails. Some parking exists here, but the park does not have many spots, so be sure to plan ahead.
