History

Millington was founded is 1878 when Mr. and Mrs. George Millington donated the land to a group of settlers on the condition that the town would be named in honor of Mr. Millington. The addition of the First Baptist Church in 1888 paved the way for continuous growth and development in the decades that followed. In early 20th century, Millington became home to a U.S. military pilot training facility as well as the Millington Telephone company. W. S. "Babe" Howard developed the iconic USA Stadium in 1986, and just a few years later Millington Regional Jetport opened.

Residents travel to nearby Memphis to visit the Pink Palace Family of Museums, which not only includes collections of historical artifacts and exhibits but also a planetarium, nature center, science center and giant 3D movie theater. The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art houses a wide variety of paintings, photography, videos and sculptures dating from antiquity to the present day.
