Living in Mosier Valley

History

-

Originally formed as a former slave colony in the 1870s by ten emancipated slave families, Mosier Valley was a successful farming community. Although close to large mixed communities, Mosier Valley remained a fully black community until the 1930s when it slowly started to grow with the town of Euless. With the help of the NAACP, the Mosier students were allowed to go to better funded formerly white schools in the 1950s, which was a difficult, but historic transition. Today, visitors see reminders of this history everywhere in historical sites and monuments. Make sure to visit the site of Mosier Valley School to read about the neighborhood's history in detail.

To celebrate a different tradition, head to the annual Euless Greek Food-Fest. The festival celebrates the Greek heritage of a vibrant community of local Orthodox church members. Treat yourself to a rich Galatobouriko custard for something special.

Restaurants

-

For the best restaurant selection in Mosier Valley, simply drive down Highway 10 for your choice of cuisines. For the best Southern dishes served in a lush green space adjacent to the Texas Star Golf Course, Raven's Grille provides both excellent dishes and ambiance. Residents rave over the chicken fried steak topped with creamy gravy. If you are really hungry--or want to save some for several meals-- get the double barreled chicken fried steak, but prepare to feel shocked at its size when it arrives. If it's available, get the fried okra on the side, because Raven's always cooks it to perfection.

For a casual bite to eat, Mom's Spice serves the best Indian food in the area. Don't let its humble location beside a gas station and nondescript appearance fool you, the dishes have the highest quality and taste full of flavor. Convenient for Bell Helicopter employees, the lunch buffet during the week serves up a large number of options for a quick meal. Even if you can't come for lunch, make sure to get the biriyani one evening to be impressed by the high-quality cardamom infused in the rice.

Nightlife in Mosier Valley consists mostly of dives and sports bars offering a variety of activities. Whether you want to sing karaoke at Marina's Restaurant and Club or shoot pool at Rob's Billiards and Sports Bar, you can find plenty to keep you busy at night. For a true dive bar experience, head over to the Cobra Club for a beer and a smoke. The jukebox has the best selection of older country music in Euless, so get your fill of Hank Williams and Johnny Cash songs here. Just remember to bring cash, because they don't accept credit cards.
