As one of the most architecturally diverse areas in San Antonio, the Near East Side has a rich history as one of the city’s oldest suburbs. The development of the area started in the late 1800s, and coincided with the construction of Fort Sam Houston, just to the north. The neighborhood is home to one of the more prominent architectural displays of San Antonio, Terrell Castle, a Romanesque-Revival residence turned event space.
With the Alamodome to the north and the AT&T Center to the south, there’s access to San Antonio’s sports and entertainment scene just miles away. The southern edge of the Near East Side runs along I-35, so commuting from this area is relatively easy.
As of November 2024, the average apartment rent in Near East Side is $1,307 for a studio, $1,434 for one bedroom, $1,550 for two bedrooms, and $1,298 for three bedrooms. Apartment rent in Near East Side has increased by 0.5% in the past year.
