The Outer Northeastern area of San Antonio was once primarily farmland and local ranches - that is until the first major planned community, Live Oak, was established in the area in 1960. Designed to provide a convenient location for commuters, this charming community quickly grew into a thriving Texas town.

At the Bob Clarke Rail Heritage Museum in Live Oak, residents can learn more about the early rural history of the area including the way the Bob Clarke Railway helped develop the area. At the Texas Transportation Museum, antique vehicles and model trains are on display alongside Texas' late history. Those who fancy the arts can visit the San Antonio Museum of Art in the Outer Northeastern where historic and contemporary collections of art are displayed in an old Lone Star Brewery.

Restaurants in Outer Northeastern San Antonio offer residents with a unique dining experience featuring cuisine from all over the globe. At Bangkok Cuisine on Pat Booker Road, diners enjoy a menu of traditional Thai food made to order using traditional family recipes. Fans of curry should make sure to try the Panang, the restaurant's signature offering.

If traditional American cuisine happens to be more your scene, then pay a visit Biff Buzby's Burgers where classic American fare is served in an inviting space that features model airplanes hanging from the ceiling. However, this establishment carries more than a vast menu of burgers. Make sure to try the sweet potato fries, or stop in on Friday nights when the restaurant hosts car shows in the main dining room.

Nightlife in the area consists mostly of local pubs and sports bars. For the largest collection of draft beers in the area and a welcoming atmosphere reminiscent of an English pub, visit the Lion and Rose British Restaurant & Pub. Here patrons can also enjoy drink specials late into the night and live bands on the weekends.

Most residents of Outer Northeastern San Antonio choose to travel by car, thanks to the free parking and the area’s close proximity to Interstate 35 and Loop 1604. This makes it easy for commuters to get to the heart of the city in just minutes. Cabs are easy to come by in the area, or residents can simply use the smart phone app to call an Uber car for a safe ride.

The area is also serviced by the VIA Metropolitan Transit, a local city bus with stops throughout the neighborhood and into downtown San Antonio. With dozens of stops around the community and low fares, this bus remains the primary mode of public transportation. Due to the spread-out and often rural nature of the community, the Outer Northeastern neighborhood of San Antonio is not particularly walker or biker friendly.

The Outer Northeastern area of San Antonio is home to several public community parks. At Main City Park, more than 75 acres of well-manicured open space offer several amenities to the public. Football fields, basketball courts and baseball fields are all open to the public and to area leagues. Playgrounds for little ones dot the park as do several picnic tables. A walking trail winds throughout the park and around the lake where the public can fish. The city of Live Oak stocks the pond twice a year, and on the first Saturday in June, the park hosts an event for National Fishing Day. Leashed dogs are always welcome in the park.

At Woodcrest Nature Park, residents can enjoy more than 32 acres of natural wooded green space. Plenty of walking and jogging trails make this a popular place for area members to exercise. The park features plenty of picnic tables, green fields and playgrounds, making it a welcoming place for both kids and pets.
