Consistently ranking among the top 13 percent of universities in the nation, Quinnipiac is one of the few universities in the country that offers both a medical and a law school. This private university was established in 1929 and is located in Hamden next door to Sleeping Giant State Park. Quinnipiac is also known for its polls -- the well-respected Quinnipiac University Polling Institute is located on campus. The Quinnipiac Bobcats participate in NCAA Division I as part of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The hockey teams are part of ECAC Hockey and play at the TD Bank Sports Center.

The oldest hiking trail in Connecticut, the 24-mile Quinnipiac Trail, extends the length of the park and offers some amazing views, especially from its highest point, Mount Sanford.
Quinnipiac University is located along Mt Carmel Avenue between Orchard Loop and Hogan Road.
