Private Catholic Rural Top-Ranking Military Lakeside Peaceful

In 1889, the Order of Saint Benedict of Florida established a Catholic university. Today, Saint Leo is one of the South's top-ranking private universities and one of the best universities for military veterans. Saint Leo is located on Lake Jovita in the Central Florida town of Saint Leo (named for the university and the monastery of Saint Leo). The town is a suburb of Tampa, situated about 30 miles north of downtown.

The town of Saint Leo is small and peaceful, but Tampa and Saint Petersburg are well within driving distance. Saint Leo has less than 600 residents, and finding apartments in town may be a challenge. The residential section of town is mainly along Highway 52 near the golf course. Neighboring San Antonio is a terrific option for rentals near Saint Leo University, and if you don't mind a short commute, nearby Dade City provides a larger community and is famous for its picturesque downtown filled with antique stores, shops, and restaurants.
