Enjoying the prestigious reputation as one of only four Public Ivy colleges in the Mid-Atlantic region, the University of Maryland is the state’s flagship university and one of the finest academic institutions in the nation.
The campus and the surrounding area offer a multitude of great ways to spend any time not spent studying or working: TerpZone is a unique twist on the student lounge, offering big-screen TVs video games, pool tables, bowling, and more in an environment that resembles a cozy finished basement. Basketball games at the Xfinity Center are always a blast, and afterward you can meet up with some friends at Bentley’s for a drink or head to any of the killer restaurants along Route 1 on the east side of campus.
Being just a few minutes outside of Washington, D.C., you can easily pop into the nation’s capital and spend an afternoon or a weekend checking out the museums, shopping, and nightlife. Metro service is available from the College Park station a few blocks from campus, making it especially easy to get around and visit D.C. even without a personal vehicle. Best of all, apartments near campus tend to be quite affordable, especially near the northeast corner around Paint Branch Stream Valley Park.
