Renowned for academic innovation and draped in rich traditions, the University of Missouri remains one of the top colleges in the region as well as the nation. The university is credited with developing the tradition of Homecoming, which has spread to colleges and high schools across the United States; as you might expect, the celebrations at Mizzou every fall are elaborate, to say the least. The community is a classic college town, with a hefty portion of the dining, entertainment, and nightlife aimed at the student body. Jump over to Shakespeare’s for a slice of pizza after class, or meet up with some friends for a cold one at Field House or Harpo’s.
The campus borders Downtown Columbia, centralizing the city’s most popular resources and attractions and making it easy to decide where to live. The greatest availability of apartments, condos, and houses can be found east of campus, across College Avenue; numerous units are also scattered around Downtown. Rental rates tend to be quite reasonable, with everything from budget-friendly studios to upscale condos available just a few blocks from the main campus.
