The University of Missouri – St. Louis boasts a wealth of top-notch academic opportunities, including their highly ranked criminology program and one of only a handful of optometry schools in the nation. The university also encompasses the Saint Louis Mercantile Library, the oldest library west of the Mississippi River which predates the university itself by over a century. UMSL is in good academic company, with Washington University and Fontbonne University just down the road; folks from all three colleges often congregate at the coffeehouses, bars, restaurants, and movie theater along Delmar Boulevard. Downtown Saint Louis is only a few minutes away by car or by rail, opening up an endless selection of shopping, dining, entertainment, and nightlife.
