As home to the state's only law school and dental school, the University of Nevada-Las Vegas is a top-ranking university considered "research-intensive." It also offers one of the nation's best hospitality programs and has one of the most diverse student populations in the country. UNLV is located in Paradise, Nevada -- a large neighborhood that contains most of the Las Vegas Strip and most of the popular city's tourist attractions. The university itself is next door to three casinos and is directly north of McCarran International Airport.
The UNLV Rebels participate in NCAA Division I as members of the Mountain West Conference. Cheer on the football team at Sam Boyd Stadium, the basketball team at Thomas & Mack Center, and the baseball team at Earl Wilson Stadium. The football game on your "must" list will be the Battle for Nevada, when the Rebels take on their rivals, the University of Nevada-Reno's Nevada Wolf Pack. This rivalry game began in 1969, and the winner of this important game takes home the Fremont Cannon trophy.
When looking for apartments near the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, be aware that the Strip is to the west and the airport is to the south. You'll find ample rentals in these locations, but if you prefer a more residential neighborhood, you might want to look on the east side of the university, between Flamingo Road and Tropicana Avenue.
