The C. W. Post Campus of Long Island University – more commonly known as LIU Post – is the biggest campus of the Long Island University system and a key contributor of the New York-area academic community. The university is well known for its business programs, which stress experiential learning by allowing students to run their own enterprises as part of the curriculum. The Tilles Center is a major local venue for concerts, opera, dance recitals, and lectures. Weekends around campus tend to be fairly quiet, with few Friday classes scheduled and many students choosing to spend their days off in the city or elsewhere on the island.

The community surrounding LIU Post is mostly composed of upscale suburbs. Several popular restaurants and bars can be found a bit farther north in the Glen Head and Glen Cove areas, and a cluster of shopping centers is only a mile and a half west on Northern Boulevard. Numerous golf courses, parks, and beaches offer terrific opportunities to spend time outdoors, and New York City is only a short train ride away.
