Suburban Historic Beautiful Sea-Grant Land-Grant Public Walkable Rams

Snug in a historic village in southern Rhode Island, the University of Rhode Island provides a beautiful setting for students and faculty alike. URI is ranked as a tier I national university and is a land-grant, sea-grant institution. The university began as an agricultural school in 1888. The Rhode Island Rams participate in NCAA Division I as part of the Atlantic 10 Conference and the Colonial Athletic Association. Fans can cheer on the Rams football team at Meade Stadium, the basketball teams and Ryan Center, and the baseball team at Bill Beck Field.

The historic village of Kingston is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Established in the early 1700s as part of South Kingstown, Kingston (then called Little Rest) became the county seat in 1752. Studying at the library will be a historical experience -- it once served as the Kings County Court House, and Rhode Island residents voted against the Constitution here in 1790. With its shady, tree-lined streets and historic architecture, walking to campus will be a pleasure. To live near Meade Stadium and the Ryan Center, look along Tootell Road and West Alumni Avenue. To be within walking distance of restaurants, look along Old North Road and Fortin Road.
