While the coast of California is lined with a variety of great cities, the small beach city of Port Hueneme stands out. Located about halfway between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, Port Hueneme is located in Ventura County and contains the Naval CBC Port Hueneme and the popular Hueneme Beach Park. With mountains on the horizon and the Pacific Coast at your door, life in Port Hueneme is all about outdoor activities -- especially surfing, swimming, boating, and fishing. Among the many things you'll love about living in Port Hueneme, this beach town is famous for its surfing, its fishing pier, and its lighthouse. The Point Hueneme Light doesn't resemble the typical lighthouse. While there has been a lighthouse here since 1874, the current lighthouse was built in 1940 -- in the art deco style popular at the time. The lighthouse features a promenade that provides terrific views of two historic sites, the 1872 Wharf and the Oxnard Packing House.
Port Hueneme provides 12 miles of walking/bicycling trails and beautiful parks: La Jenelle Park, a seaside park with a rocky shoreline and mountain views, is considered one of California's hidden gems. Look carefully among the rocks: the park is named for a 407-foot, luxury cruise ship that sank here in 1970, and part of the ship are still visible among the boulders. Port Hueneme Beach Park contains the pier, the lighthouse, a beautiful beach, volleyball courts, picnic areas, walking paths, and a snack bar.
As of December 2024, the average apartment rent in Port Hueneme, CA is $1,042 for a studio, $1,872 for one bedroom, $2,152 for two bedrooms, and $2,571 for three bedrooms. Apartment rent in Port Hueneme has increased by 2.3% in the past year.
