History

Piper was laid out in the September of 1888 by L. E. Scott, Margaret Scott, John Waldron, Ella L. Waldron, W. S. Brown and S. A. Brown, the proprietors of the town site which embraced 40 acres. The village contained two general stores, a blacksmith and wagon shop, railroad depot, and telegraph.

From around 1902 through 1945, the Piper school district grew, making many contributions to much of the advancements in education that the school was able to take. More information regarding the history of the town can be found in the Wyandotte Museum, which strives to preserve the heritage of the county.

The variety of food in the Prairie-Piper area contributes to the Midwest's cultural flare. Though the neighborhood resides in a rural setting and restaurants may not be directly part of the neighborhood, within a 20-minute driving radius, the surrounding areas play host to some up-and-coming restaurants, which include Asian, Italian and American cuisines. Local wineries and pubs also exist that you don't want to miss out on if you do live in the area. The combination of restaurants in the area exhibits a diverse array of options.

With a modern vibe, Stix serves Asian cuisine made with a hibachi grill. The restaurant remains most notable for its sushi and hibachi shows that prove to be quite entertaining for the family. Many people find it a mediocre, highly-Americanized Asian restaurant, while others appreciate it.

Many people enjoy the Italian Delight restaurant for its traditional Italian pizza, calzones, spaghetti or pasta. There, you can buy pizza by the slice and hangout in its casual atmosphere. From the front of the store, you can't tell how good the pizza tastes, but locals love this restaurant.

Dave & Buster's restaurant splits up between an eating area, bar and arcade, creating a great family fun environment for visitors of all ages. Serving American comfort food, it is considered a place where adults can act like kids too. Some recommended meals include the chicken alfredo or the kabobs.

While these restaurants prove great for going out to lunch or dinner, if you want to extend the night out with friends, you consider checking out a few nightlife options. Turn 2 Sports Bar modernizes the typical bar scene on a whole different level with multiple TVs propped around the store, in booths and on the ceilings, which provides a very high-tech vibe in addition to the view of the NASCAR track.

Yard House provides over 100 beers to choose from, encasing the atmosphere with excitement and great people-watching opportunities. Many people recommend the Thai chicken noodle salad with spicy peanut vinaigrette. The general cost ranges from $11 to $30.

Two minutes outside the neighborhood, Wine Barn produces its own wines and has live music on Fridays during the summer. With a homey western flair, the Wine Barn has yummy food and wine tasting that lends itself to some great summer nights.

Other places for hanging out include the Cricket Wireless Amphitheater and Holy Field Vineyard & Winery.

In this area of town, many people drive to work, and most people drive to their destinations with their own cars since the area lacks public transportation. However, many highways lie nearby so that you can get to your destination quickly. Highway 73 lies along the neighborhood, and highways 40, 435 and 70 lie nearby to circulate you easily around the city.

Since considerable distance lies between each place, many people don't bike except for on the designated trails at local parks. If you needs a cab service, you have to call, as they do not prove easy to hail. Recommended cab services include Merc Madriver Kansas City Taxi, A+ Transportation or Roundabout Transportation.

One of Wyandotte County's main concerns remains keeping a healthy community. This means that the county has many parks and recreational facilities to visit in order to attain public health goals.

Within 10 minutes of the Prairie-Piper neighborhood lies Wyandotte County Lake State Park, which contains features such as fishing, picnic shelters with playgrounds and restrooms, boat rentals, Davis Hall, Bridle Trail, off-leash dog arena, archery range, and Mr. & Mrs..F.L. Schlagle Library and Environmental Center. The kids' fishing pond and the largest outdoor playground in Wyandotte County make this park particularly kid-friendly.

The huge place proves perfect for walking around and spending time with your friends.

Many people get their groceries from nearby supermarkets, such as Walmart or Pricechopper.
