Once a bustling mill town, Roanoke Rapids is a quaint community 90 miles northeast of Raleigh. The city sits near the Roanoke Dam and enjoys access the lake that feeds the Roanoke River below it. It’s a relatively sleepy community, but there are popular chain restaurants and big-box stores along East Littleton Rd. and I-95.

There are charming mill houses all around the city that will delight renters with large yards, and low-lying apartment complexes that provide easy access to the Interstate. The lake is a popular relaxation spot for residents, and there’s plenty of boat ramps and day-use areas where you can host a cookout or just appreciate the view.
