Originally an industrial area, Shady Acres is now an amenity-filled neighborhood in the northwestern corner of Houston, about eight miles from downtown. Along with modern houses, townhomes, and apartments for every budget from affordable to upscale, Shady Acres is packed with almost everything a renter could need. The neighborhood houses a hospital, several big-box department stores, small businesses, child care centers, bars, and restaurants serving up everything from casual eats to international cuisines. Little Thicket Park on the western corner of the neighborhood allows residents to get a breath of fresh air on 10-acre green space with trails. Although Shady Acres is amenity-laden, the neighborhood is convenient to several major destinations and attractions in the city including the Galleria, Downtown Houston, the Houston Zoo, Texas South University, and the University of Houston. Interstate 610 and U.S. Route 90 make traveling around H-town a breeze.
