Living in Talbot's Corner

History

-

Talbot's Corner and many of the other surrounding East Nashville neighborhoods first rose to prominence as a refuge for the city's wealthiest citizens during the late 1700s. While these residents built many of the lavish country homes that dot the neighborhood today, fire and natural disasters forced Nashville's elite out of the area.

During the 1800s and early 1900s, East Nashville earned an unsavory reputation as a hub for Nashville's lower classes. In order to rectify this reputation, the city government sponsored widespread renovation programs form the 1940s through the '60s. By and large, these efforts proved successful, as East Nashville began to attract musicians, artists and young families during the 1970s. These new residents brought with them a strong inclination for the arts, which still characterizes Talbot's Corner today. The Tennessee State Museum in downtown Nashville details this history.

Restaurants

-

Several areas in and around Talbot's Corner host the area's restaurants, including the junction of West Eastland Avenue and McFerrin Avenue. Here you'll find one of Nashville's most beloved burger shops: the Pharmacy. Though this establishment specializes in serving unique burgers, many patrons insist on the Farm Burger, which features locally sourced ham, eggs and bacon on a succulent beef patty. When paired with the Pharmacy's tater tots and signature curry ketchup, it becomes easy to see why this restaurant holds a special place in the hearts of residents.

Brother Z's Wang Shack sits right in the center of the neighborhood. Because of the unassuming storefront, few diners not from Talbot's Corner realize that this establishment serves some of Nashville's best chicken wings. Locals love the mystery sauce on their wings, a well-balanced sauce featuring sweet and spicy flavors that has customers guessing its ingredients every time they visit.

For breakfast, head to the nearby Nashville Biscuit House. This affordable eatery serves both breakfast and lunch options, though their most popular dish is the sausage biscuits. Furthermore, the Nashville Biscuit House strives to keep customers returning by focusing on providing high-quality, friendly service. The dedication to service lends a very homely, relaxing quality to the restaurant.

Although a handful of nightlife destinations operate within the neighborhood boundaries, residents often travel to downtown Nashville or other East Nashville neighborhoods on nights out. The nearby No. 308 attracts huge crowds every weekend, and is one of the city's best places to dance to something other than country music. Additionally, this lounge hires bartenders capable of mixing complex cocktails, and the staff treats bartending as a skilled craft.
