San Marcos became incorporated as a city in 1963 and since then has seen consistent growth in both population and industry.

San Marcos has one museum and a couple art galleries all found outside of Village O. The neighborhood doesn't have any annual events, but the city has several, including San Marcos Alive at the San Marcos Civic Center. Only a short drive north, the event features fine art, hands-on projects and live entertainment.
