History

Lathrop presents a fairly brief history, having been founded in 1887. Due to the town's close proximity to a major railroad, residents originally referred to the area as Wilson's Station. Leland Stanford stands credited as the founder of the town, having derived the present day name of Lathrop from his brother-in-law Charles Lathrop. Over a century later, in 2004, the Historic Lathrop Committee formed a vision that focused on the improvement of the community. The plan was approved in 2005, and nearly all propositions were carried out, creating the beautiful and modern town of Lathrop.

Visit the Manteca Historical Society & Museums for an immerse look into the town's history; the museum features a number of antique displays and exhibits. Children's Museum of Stockton serves a great spot for kids, presenting over 30 fully interactive exhibits.
