In 1951, Paradise A was founded but later was renamed Winchester in 1953. With a close proximity to the Las Vegas Strip, Winchester visitors and residents can frequent plenty of museums all within easy walking or transit, the closet being the National Atomic Testing Museum. If you are interested in the Cold War or U.S. history, make the stop at this museum anytime of the year. Plenty art galleries can be found along the Las Vegas Strip a short distance away.

Most restaurants can be easily found along East Sahara Avenue and South Eastern Avenue, and around East Desert Inn Road and McLeod Drive.

This area has bragging rights when it comes to burgers with locals pointing to 'La Parilla The Lab'. And your order is not complete without a side of garlic fries. Don't want a big juicy burger? No matter the time of day you visit this establishment, the price hits just right with burgers under $10 and a breakfast burger that knocks your socks off. The burger includes honey ham, baby browns, bacon and egg all on a bun. Once they find The Burger Lab located in an unassuming strip mall, visitors add it to their favorites.

The area of Winchester does not need its own bars and pubs due to being so close to the Las Vegas Strip. Locals head to Las Vegas Boulevard where the nightlife remains vibrant. Favorites include XS Nightclub, Drai's Nightclub and Surrender Nightclub. If you would rather relax with a drink in hand instead of dancing the night away, then The Velveteen Rabbit, Level 107 Lounge or The Chandelier hold a reputation as the real hot spots.

Most residents in Winchester drive to get to and from work. A small percentage of the residents ride the bus for their daily commute, but most find it useful to own a car to get around.

Public transportation remains bountiful in the area with The Deuce buses (double-deckers), City Center Tram, Las Vegas Monorail and the SDX bus system, which locals agree to be a faster service than The Deuce because of fewer tourists and less stops at hotels.

Getting a cab in Winchester can be as easy as well. Usually a quick telephone call to the cab company can have you picked up in minutes, but keep in mind that if you are on the Las Vegas Strip, it is illegal to hail a taxi. Because of high volumes of traffic, there are strict regulations to pick up customers only at designated taxi stands that are generally found at entrances to casinos and restaurants. Parking can be scarce in the city and the areas close to the strip. Most businesses have designated parking areas for patrons only. Public parking remains available for pay at designated lots around the area including the airport. Prices vary as most lots are privately owned. Many people park at a lot, and use public transit to navigate the city and outlying areas. Events and activities take place all year round at the Winchester Cultural Center. The gallery hosts exhibits to highlight local talent, has diverse youth and adult programs, a park that includes a skate park and has the only indoor theater with over 200 seats in Clark County.
