Living in Windsor Estates

History

-

Despite the long history of the area, tied both to the R.J. Reynolds family and the Moravian settlers of the mid-1700s, Windsor Estates came to be in the 1980s with the construction of many homes and the continued growth of the area and nearby Wake Forest University. Most of the growth centers along Reynolda Road to the east, with strip malls and apartment complexes lining this commercial thoroughfare.

The neighborhood's crown jewel is Bethabara Historic Park, a living museum of a 1753 Moravian village.

There are numerous annual events in the region, ranging from the North Carolina Wine Festival to the Festival of Lights. Galleries and small stages feature local artists and performers year-round, with Wake Forest University serving as the center of this scene.

Parks

-

Several pocket parks dot the landscape, but the main attraction is Historic Bethabara Park, a national historic landmark that dates back to 1753 and highlights the history of the Moravian settlers who started a religious center and trading post on this site. The 20 miles of nature trails, a museum, guided tours and wildlife viewing await you here, free of charge, all year long. Families can spend entire days visiting the various buildings, interpretive trails and open spaces.

Several greenbelts with trails for walking and cycling run through the region, and Wake Forest University to the south features many gardens and open spaces. Washington Park, near downtown Winston-Salem, provides residents with an off-leash area for dogs.
