Downtown Indianapolis is a true marvel of American urban design, and is rightly recognized as one of the stylistic gems of the Midwest. The grand architecture of the various government buildings and museums ranges from neoclassical to ultra-modern, creating a timeless and visually stunning environment. Huge monuments and war memorials punctuate the landscape as well – in fact, Indianapolis has more such public tributes than any city in America apart from Washington, DC.
Downtown features a thriving nightlife scene, mainly along Meridian Street and Massachusetts Avenue and incorporating an immense selection of bars, clubs, and live music venues for every taste. The dining is unbeatable, with world-class restaurants of every description within a short walk from anywhere and the popular Food Truck Fridays delivering more eclectic fare during the summer months.

Property Ratings at Lockefield Gardens
I have bikes stolen while living here. Unfortunately, there is no CCTV. I reported the case to the administration people. They said within a week the campus police will contact me but no one contacts yet. People should consider to live in here if you have any valuable vehicles or properties. I also got another problem is that an outsider was trying to unlock my door while I am staying in the room. I was shouting at them and they left. I did not report this case but I still feel unsafe when living here. I feel that the security here is not good. Lockefield Gardens should equip CCTV and improve security here.
This place is an outdated mess. I moved into an apartment that smelled like mildew because they cleaned the carpet and did not air it out. The bathroom sink was clogged, the toilets leaked so much water on the floor everytime I flushed. The ceiling in the kitchen fell due to poor installation and it shattered all over the floor. The microwave was dead and was manufactured in the 1980s. The oven is ancient as well. The maintenance people take on average 2 months to get back to your work orders, but only if you call lockefield about why they are taking so long. Lockefield staff are not on their A game, they are not prepared, especially when transferring to another apartment. They gave me a date to transfer and told me that the washer is being replaced and the apartment is basically not ready, even though they gave us a date to move out. Very annoying. Lockefield is not worth the money or time.
Maintenance could not get the black mold problem under control due to constant leaking in the ceiling. Foul place to live
I don't know how these guys work. Those people have no idea with time and doing the wrong paperwork. They printed that I need to pay 500 for example, at last, I need to pay 600, the reason is that they just printed wrong and calculated wrong, which means paperwork is nothing for them.
Rundown, inefficient, untimely repairs. Overall, will not live here for another term
You get what you pay for, very good location in terms of how close it is to campus. However, because of it’s closeness to the river, bugs are an issue but not an infestation. The bugs I come across consist of normal house insects so nothing serious. Maintenance is timely but effective. Most likely due to a shortage in workers as they are always hiring maintence. The quality of the complex is relatively nice. I’d compare the apartments to a small European style. There is also some construction going on but the complex is relatively well Kept. Cons: Aside from the bugs and timely management(due to a shortage of workers), another con includes packages being left out at the entrance of each building making it extremely easy to steal any mailed packages. Pros: Nice management, if there is ever an issue you will be fairly compensated, security (a few police officers live here making it a safer location, also surrounded by a metal fence), location to campus, size, utilities of apartment, and cleanliness. I recommend lockefield to students of IUPUI, as well as any Indianapolis residents who are searching for a safe location close to downtown.
I lived at Lockefield and really liked it. I had a small one bedroom and my friends that visited really liked it too. I lived in the older section and will always think of this place as one of the best I've lived. Maintenance was pretty good. No real issues. Just a nice convenient place.
The basics: I've been reporting a leak in my bedroom ceiling for 4 months, and it has just now been addressed. I have them spray for centipedes nearly every week to no avail. The community dumpster is constantly overflowing and smelly. Guests must either pay for a temporary permit or risk being towed. I suggest viewing the Google reviews before signing a lease. It is also NOT a gated community - anyone can walk in off the street, and there are no locks on your building. Though not essential, it is unfortunate that the hot tub in the pool area has not worked since I moved in.
My wife and I lived here for three years due to its relatively cheap rent and its proximity to downtown. We were saving for a house so inexpensiveness was a plus. The price, however, is the only positive the complex had going for it. Fixtures, carpeting, windows, general floors, as well as other amenities had obviously not been updated since the days when it was low income housing. The result of this was that things broke constantly. The maintance guys were nice and did what they could, but things would break again not long after repair. The roof above us flooded our apartment not once, but twice. The "repairs" to the flood was poor spackling and a box fan to dry out the carpet. The carpet had a large stain as a result of this, and likely mold. I could forgive all this given the price, however, upon moving out we were immediately without warning sent to a collection company. The long list of charges were to "repair" the items that were at least twenty years old to begin with. The carpet, as noted above, which was damaged further by the flood was charged to us to repair. I have spoke with others that upon leaving the apartment had similar treatment. We have lived in many apartments over the years and have always paid rent on time. We have never in our many years of renting dealt with such nonsense however. This is the first review I have ever done as I do not generally think they are a good guide, but I felt the need to let others to be aware. Rent here at your own risk.
I've lived at Lockefield Gardens throughout my years in graduate school, and I've been very happy thus far. I have had various maintenance issues over time, but generally the staff is very responsive and takes care of my requests in a timely manner. On one occasion, my refrigerator stopped working entirely, and it took a bit too long for Sexton Properties to understand that there was no way to repair the damage, and I needed a new fridge. Still, they eventually came through and I've had no problems with my new fridge ever since. Overall, I plan to continue renting at Lockefield Gardens because it provides the best value for a student who wants to live in downtown Indy.
Over all okay starting out apartment, especially for IUPUI students. Location: Lockefield Gardens is located in a great spot just outside of central downtown. It was great to take a short cab ride to local bars and restaurants, or take a nice long walk along the canal. Move-in Ready: The apartment was pretty filthy when I moved in. I'm not sure if this is normal - we called maintenance and they took care of a few things, but we still had major deep cleaning to do during move in. Staff: Staff is friendly, and always answers the phone; However, they blew us off a lot for various maintenance calls. I typically have to call more than once if I need something fixed. Interior: This is honestly a great little apartment, although its very old. We enjoyed the spacing and the open set up. One large issue we had was insulation. Our apartment was always frigid during the winter and electricity bills were very high.
