Manchester’s West Side is conveniently nestled between US Highway 6 and Interstate 384, both connecting the neighborhood to nearby Hartford, located just eight miles west. West Side is a residential community that’s lined with verdant trees, luxury lofts, longstanding homes, and historic buildings that have been converted into apartments. There are a few establishments in town, including Labyrinth Brewing Company on Forest Street. A shopping center, hospital, and chain and local businesses surround the neighborhood. Residents enjoy getting outdoors at several green spaces in and around town, including Manchester Country Club, Center Memorial Park, Center Springs Park, and Charter Oak Park. Manchester Community College and the University of Hartford are within easy reach of Manchester’s West Side, making the neighborhood a great place for students, faculty, and staff to call home.

Property Ratings at Lofts at the Mills
The high ceilings and exposed brick sold it for me. If you want a place with paper thin walls, creaky floors, long walks from the parking lot/trash, shared laundry that smells funky, sketchy contracts, and staff that don't care about their tenants, then this is the place for you. To be fair to the staff, They are not bad people. They are doing their job. I just got the feeling that they were their to serve their bosses, not their customers. So that's the bad, what is the good... I was able to get in on fairly short notice back in April 2022. Its walking distance to main street. High ceilings makes it feel bigger than it is. All in all, if you have few other choices its ok and will get you by, but I would not recommend living here if you can help it.

Hi, thank you for sharing your experience and bringing your concerns to our attention. We will be happy to discuss your concerns further. Please call us at (860) 200-2151 or stop by the leasing office at your earliest convenience.
Constant thefts in the parking lot (including my motorcycle and my neighbor’s catalytic converter), ignored complaints of domestic violence in neighboring units, website barely functions to pay rent, autopay will fail and they just hit you with the late fee and not their problem, none of the washers and dryers work, people will harass you walking to and from your car and they refuse to acknowledge any of these problems Constant thefts in the parking lot, ignored complaints of domestic violence in neighboring units, and if you complain enough, the staff will screen phone calls. My girlfriend calls me crying at night because of the problems she deals with there while i work out of state. DO NOT RENT HERE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

Ileana in leasing is a great help in getting families into a home. The apartments are spacious and lovely. Definitely recommend it. They also have elevators to help with issues walking and for transporting furniture it is wonderful.

Hi, we are so happy to read such a great review about Lofts at the Mills and Ileana! Thanks again for the recommendation, and have an amazing day!
If you intend on having a good night sleep... don’t bother living at Loft at The Mills. The walls are paper thin. There is no privacy. I can hear my neighbor snore at night!! Loudly too as if he was sleeping in besides me. They hardly clean the hallways.

Just some information to scratch the surface of the issues you'll face-I genuinely wish I had trusted the negative reviews here. I am hugely reliant on reviews but I am also someone who expects facts to back up reviews. A negative OPINION is different than a negative EXPERIENCE. So I fully intend to be specific. Not only was the entire rear ended of my car dented while parked in the complex, but my boyfriends car was broken into. They stole plenty of items along with his birth certificate. If that doesn't scare you enough, a mutual friend had his TIRES stolen off his car. The leasing office has a ridiculous turn over rate, and all they will do is shrug their shoulders (which is what occurred today when they were made aware of the situation). You will pay high end price and promised high end living, yet they have ZERO security cameras. Don't ignore the negative reviews. The safety and security here is beneath anything you would expect for what you are paying. I can confidently say there were only a few employees that I faced on a regular basis that genuinely made that entire building function. These reviews are in NO WAY reflecting them or the type of employees they are. The building itself is nothing short of a disappointment considering it's natural beauty and potential to truly BE the high end complex it's advertised as. However, the lack of effort to provide their tenants with something as simple as safety and security is just a joke.

I fell in love with the lofts at the mills. I was so excited and this was my first apartment out of college. Being out of college I anticipated the benefits of my own space and a new mature environment, however I was let down. My first night at the lofts, my neighbor overdosed and the EMTs knocked on my door mistakenly at 4:30am after I was woken up by yelling and screaming. These neighbors stayed there after the incident and continued their habits despite its opportunity of being a wake up call. I kept to myself, did my best to finish up grad school and spent most of my time either writing my thesis or working one of my two jobs. At least twice a week these infamous neighbors would either be fighting at the top of their lungs or making up very loudly in the wee hours of the night. One afternoon I was doing training for my certification by watching training videos and said neighbor got very upset being able to hear it playing on my iPad and started pounding on the walls, and yelling colorful things about me to shut off my videos. When I called the leasing office about the verbal assault, very little was done and I was directed to call the police for the next incident. Another incident was a phone interview I had at a school in NY and these neighbors yelling so loudly that the interviewer asked whether “the timing of my interview was okay”. Along with the walls being extremely thin, there are people who do not pick up after their dogs, leave pills and alcohol bottles in the halls and prop open the doors so bugs creep in and out as they please. These are otherwise beautiful apartments, most of the office staff is pleasant, the maintenance staff is extremely nice and quick to help when appliances fail or leaks happen but it was all spoiled by the few awful people who made me feel uncomfortable in my supposed-to-be home. Having lived in dorms for 3 years prior to this, I’d go back to that in a heartbeat if it meant not getting harassed or hearing fights on a weekly basis. I would have loved to stay in this style apartment, however I cannot tolerate the discomfort of terrible neighbors any longer.
The hallways are very old and smell horrible, you can hear footstep and voice as you walk around. The 'management' team is extremely nice to you until they have your money, then they disregard anything you have to say. It is by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. Save yourself the hassle and disappointment and look for a different apartment, there are much better ones in the area.
I just signed my third lease here and I have no intention of moving anytime within the next few years. I have owned three homes and sold my last house to live here. I realize that a lot of people prefer home ownership but I am not one of them. I had a large house with a large yard and in-ground pool. It was a LOT of maintenance. I am so much happier here. If I have an issue that came up for some problem at the apartment I just make a call. The office staff is great and know me and my boys and ask me about them when they see me. That's impressive when they oversee as many apartments as they do. Let me also not forget to mention the maintenance staff. I call with any issue and they all come and address it quickly. My boys are 15 and (almost) 13 and I plan on being here until they finish high school at least. I see no reason to leave. I have all that I need; the beautiful residents' center, the gym, the awesome pool, and of course the apartment with three large bedrooms and an additional loft area upstairs that acts like another living/game room for the boys, and my favorite, the washer/dryer upstairs right next to my bedroom. Are there things I would change? Sure, but there were when I owned a home too. I highly recommend coming for a look.
I moved into the Lofts 3 years ago. The office staff and maintenance staff are nothing but professional and friendly! If you are looking for a apartment that has lots of closet space and room to move around than this is your place. You can not beat the price of the apartment and what you have in return. The other bonus is that they are located next to 384. So if you have to get to the highway its a piece of cake. Note: If you are thinking that the you will not hear your neighbors or any noise, well that's just how apartment living is.
I moved into Lofts at the Mills in October and have been very happy ever since. The apartments are gorgeous (especially the big windows!) and the area is nice. I've never had a problem with anyone in the office, they have always been very helpful and attentive to my needs. If something was broken, they sent someone up to fix it that same day. The apartments themselves are sunlit, beautiful, spacious, and really feel like home. I was very happy to call it my own for the past few months. The walls are a little thin, but the noise is never really a problem and no reason to not live there. If it ever REALLY is serious, its nothing a pair of $5 ear plugs can't fix (or a knock on your neighbors door if you're feeling gutsy). My overall experience here has been excellent and I would certainly recommend them to anyone looking in this area!
I moved in about 3 months ago. I Feel very safe inside and around the building. Quiet neighborhood right near 384 and downtown. Maintenace is really nice and helpful, respond quickly to issues. Apartment is well maintained, clean, and feels larger than it is. Downsides are drafty Windows, the blinds break easily, and there is only one handicap enterance in the back of the building, which makes it difficult to move in or out. Nice facilities and great neighborhood.
Every time it rains or snows, the roof leaks and occasionally a new leak starts up... Have reported this multiple times and maintenance staff gave us a garbage can to deal with it. Also, a/c didn't work at the beginning of summer. Maintenance staff have come into my apt without knocking multiple times and invaded my privacy. After an annual smoke detector check, mine went off one night and had to call the fire dept, which subsequently told us our detector was faulty. They started roof work recently and there were wood shavings all over my office... The building manager told me its may happen multiple times and condescendingly asked if I needed someone to vacuum it for me. Staff are extremely condescending and very unhelpful. All in all, it's just a hindrance to live here and I am looking forward to moving out. Don't waste your time checking this place out.
This is a wonderful complex consisting of a microcosm of today's society. Unusual loft - style apartments (building was originally a mill factory) with customer service - oriented staff, beautiful amenities and close to many cities (i.e., Hartford, Springfield, Boston, Providence). Great fitness center and outdoor pool. Tennis court is receiving a new facelift. Seeking outdoor activities? A walking/running/biking trail is near by.This complex is a gem in a quaint village (10 minutes from Hartford).
I like my new place, living in an old mill, with all the amenities inside the building and the rent is right!....I will be there for a long time to come
Lofts at the mills is a beautiful and affordable property, with a friendly leasing office and beautiful old brick style look. The variety of layouts make it easy to find an apartment that's a perfect fit.
I loved, loved the lofts at the mills, only problem I had with them was no way out of the apartment such as patio or deck or balcony. Not sure about other people but I need to be outside during the day and the warm months, plus there was no place to grill when i wanted to cook out. The only reason i did not pick to live here,
