Historic Greenbush was established as a melting pot of different cultures. Because of urban renewal in the 1960s, much of the architecture that reflected the community’s heritage went away. However, traces of “The Bush” as many called it, remain today. One example of historic Greenbush is the Neighborhood House, a community center that provides local groups a space to meet up – just like it did over a century ago when it was founded.
When it comes to food, you can find everything from pizza parlors to international fare. Greenbush Bakery is a favorite within Madison, as it’s the only city bakery that serves kosher-certified doughnuts. Nightlife in Greenbush includes the Rockhound Brewing Company and the Rustic Tavern.
Dipping your toes in one of the many nearby beaches is sure to excite. But if that doesn’t sway you, the polar bears and tigers at Henry Vilas Zoo might.

Property Ratings at Longfellow Lofts
We lived at Longfellow Lofts for almost 4 years. Property manager Tammy and maintenance master Ziggy, made sure we were always comfortable and they answered any requests or concerns quickly, professionally, and never made us feel like we were bothering them. They always had a cheery “good morning” and “hello, how are you?” whenever they’d see us. The apartments are comfortable, beautifully maintained and there’s a floor plan for everyone. The buildings are clean everywhere, including hallways, carpeting, floors, elevators, garage and courtyard. Convenient in-unit washer and dryers, too. No quarters here! Options for garage or courtyard parking available, as well as street parking. We loved being able to park in the garage, unload our shopping into one of the carts provided, and take it to our apartment in the elevator. Great in rain and snow! Pet friendly? Yes! Our dogs loved visiting with Tammy, Ziggy, and Emma who assists Tammy part-time. Lots of ear scratches, hugs and treats for all the dogs who reside there. The staff has gone over and above in times of need. In an emergency or if we were running late getting home, and our dogs needed attention or to be checked on, we were able to ask the office to do that for us. They happily obliged. Buildings do not smell of pets, ever. Very clean! We enjoyed movie day on Tuesdays, when we could go to the historical building (once Longfellow School) auditorium, and enjoy a movie with complimentary fresh popcorn, chips, candy, and water or coffee. Christmas time is made less hectic for the residents, as the beautifully decorated auditorium is set-up with everything you need to wrap gifts with a vast array of wrap, bags, tissue paper, bows and tags, pens, tape, and scissors. Hot cocoa and Christmas music playing to give you the warm and fuzzies. All complimentary! If you are looking for a place to live, you can live anywhere. BUT, if you are looking for a place to call home, you’ll find it in Longfellow Lofts under the expect management of Tammy and Ziggy. Great community! Great people!

Hi there, thank you so much for your positive comments about Longfellow Lofts! Your recommendation means so much to us and we're so happy to have earned it. Thank you again for taking the time to let the world know about your positive experience. Have a great day!
Tammy and Ziggy both went well out of their way to make anything they could better, including after hours cookouts, watch parties, gift wrapping stations, and even a pet-friendly holiday card photo op! They've also gone out of their way to help my new puppy when he was in distress (after getting my permission) when I wasn't home, rather than just saying "hey your dog's loud". I really wish that more apartment staff were like what Longfellow has... It always felt like home instead of just a rental.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We are happy to hear you had a positive experience at our property! We will pass along your kind words to the staff. Have a great rest of your day!
I transferred to Madison from a prior work with no time to do my research and picked Longfellow Lofts for convenience since it was close to work. It was a strike of luck because we loved it here and we ended up staying for the next 4 years. The area is beautiful and quiet, Meriter Hospital is across the street but FYI, ambulances enter the ER trough Park St and you rarely hear a noise. Once or twice a month you may hear the air ambulance but the heliport is in the 8th floor, so also not a big deal. I lived in the Historic building, it used to be a primary school (I think). They have preserved the architecture and feeling, my unit had a wall of lockers which was great for storage and I hear some units even have glass cabinets from the old chemistry labs, wall to wall blackboards etc. No 2 units are the same, mine also had a basketball hoop There is an auditorium which is free to use for tenants. This is no small perk, I hosted many parties and movie nights and even a couple of events from my work (sits over 200 ppl). There is a professional projector with a great sound system, microphones, blue ray player, apple TV, etc. there is also a full size popcorn machine and the corn/oil/salt packets and popcorn bags are included. The Longfellow has Movie night every Tuesday for any tenant to attend, there is usually snacks and drinks available. They also have events for important games or events and occasionally there is stand up comedy shows also free for tenants. Oh and they also have gift wrapping station during holiday season!. The building is well kept and professionally cleaned often. There is reading nooks in the stair rest between floors, usually very quiet. Tenants are mostly professionals, very friendly and quiet. I never had any issue with noise or any other problem. The place is pet friendly and the is areas for pet relief, bags and trashcans with hand sanitizer dispenser to keep things nice and clean. The staff is super friendly and available via text or email, they will get back to you right away. I never had an issue that would take more than a day or 2 to resolve. I could keep going but as you can tell, we were very happy living here during our time in Madison and we will really miss our apartment, you should check the Longfellow's out.

We absolutely loved the two years we spent at the Longfellow Lofts. We lived in the historic building, which had such unique character! Beyond the incredible building, Tammy will go above and beyond to ensure you have a great experience. It truly feels like a community and the only reason we left was because we were relocating to a different city. I would 100% recommend this apartment for your next home!
Tammy and Ziggy are always so helpful and friendly. They are pet friendly, too! Great community, location, and service. Highly recommended. Loved living here for 3 years

Thank you for sharing your positive experience with Longfellow Lofts! Until the next time we meet, take care! Longfellow Lofts Management
Tammy and the staff on site make the experience of apartment living feel like family. In fact this prescience is notable to the success factor of living there. The personal attention to detail made a move from the Northeast feel like home! The historic building was spacious, charming, and quiet. The fire pit was peaceful and bbq area always clean. The neighborhood;close to work and play and I would recommend this building property to anyone!!
The management of the building is superb, Tammy and her staff give very personalized service. Nothing like those big corporate apartments that get you coming and going. And the building-- a classic. I lived on the 3rd floor, which was great for my houseplants. Access to the main avenues of Madison was easy, and the other tenants were quite friendly. Wish I could have stayed!
My wife and I lived at Longfellow for two and a half years and absolutely loved the apartment and the location. You could go 6 blocks in one direction and be in the heart of the UW Campus and all it has to offer and 6 blocks in another direction and be walking through trails around Lakes Wingra or Monona and the Greenbush neighborhood. We also loved our proximity to Camp Randall and the Kohl Center as avid Badger fans. We had a one-bedroom apartment in the modern building facing the courtyard. Outside and adjacent apartment noise was never much of an issue. Apartment was a good size for us and our dog. Tammy was always very responsive and accommodative any time we had an issue and did a good job of managing the property and surrounding area in the best interest of the tenants. We would highly recommend Longfellow Lofts!
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our two years at Longfellow. We had a one bedroom apartment in the historic building on the second floor and found the apartment comfortable, welcoming, and quiet. Our favorite parts about the unit was the open layout, tall ceilings, great heating and cooling, and the in unit washer/dryer. During the cold and cloudy Wisconsin winters, we enjoyed the warm and not drafty living space and the tall windows to let in light. It was also nice to feel safe; the building was key card access, security cameras in the halls, and parking was off the street. The management was great! We enjoyed chatting with the property manager (Tammy) and maintenance (Bruce) any time we saw them. They were responsive to complaints, helpful with issues, and hosted fun gatherings to help establish a sense of community. Its a great neighborhood close to anything, and enjoyed walking our dog to the nearby Lake Wingra. The historic and modern buildings are different in many ways, be sure to check both out.

Beautiful, brand new units in a great location! Features include hardwood flooring, new carpeting, walk in closets, in-unit washer/dryer, granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. The Longfellow Lofts Theatre is available for private reservations, but also open to all residents for football viewing parties complete with popcorn and beverages. Maintenance is very prompt, and the property manager warns you well in advance when they will be coming to change furnace filters, clean windows, etc. Pet friendly with a courtyard that has school yard games (hopscotch, tetherball, and four square) as well as a grill and outdoor dining area. Underground and surface lot parking are available. 20 minute walk to downtown Madison. 10 minute walk to the zoo.
