Property Ratings at MAA Gateway
Since January, I've had at least 5 packages stolen from outside of my mailbox in the lobby or outside of my apartment door. That's not even counting the ones that seemingly never arrived; these are the 5 that I can prove were stolen. However, the leasing office at MAA Gateway never responds to my emails about this concern. I first emailed them on 1/2 about the 1st stolen package, with a photo of the box addressed to me that had been opened and the contents of it taken out. I emailed them again on 3/14 about the 2nd stolen package, with a photo from FedEx that showed exactly where the package was left in the lobby. By the time I got home, it was gone. I emailed them again on 3/21 about the 3rd stolen package, with a photo from Amazon that showed exactly where the package was left outside of my apartment door. By the time I got home, it was gone. I emailed them again on 5/31 about the 4th and 5th stolen packages, with photos of 2 different packages from 2 different days (5/30 and 5/31) addressed to me that had been opened and the contents of them taken out. One of them was a prescription medication. This is a safety and security issue. MAA Gateway bills itself as a “luxury” apartment complex, yet I can’t even get mail reliably delivered to my address. This issue is an established pattern of criminal activity occurring in the building, and I can’t even get them to respond to me about it. Besides this problem, this complex is filthy. The parking garage is always littered with trash and residents’ discarded items, and on 2 separate occasions there has been a used condom in the stairwell that has been left there for weeks.

We strive to provide excellent service for our residents, and we welcome the opportunity to exceed your expectations. Thank you for providing this information so we can work to improve our services. We hope to hear from you soon.
Just a disgusting building. Mold, trash, dirt, pee, mud in the hallways. Something breaks every week. Cockroaches everywhere. Homeless people sleep in the hallway and the gym. Anytime there’s an issue, management says “sorry to hear”. Just a terribly run building that frankly needs to be shut down soon

I am currently living here and if I could get out of my lease I would! My apartment is a safety hazard! Not only am I paying wayyyy to much for my unit. They also lied to me about the square feet! It is 200 less than what I signed for! I have a ladybug infestation! My ac breaks everyday! My fire sprinkler is falling out of the ceiling, my window is off the tracks and my washer, dryer, dishwasher all don’t work. The washer and dishwasher don’t drain so I just have a bunch of water and the dryer ( according to maintenance I’m the first one using it) yeah no, it has glitter and pink thread stuck in it since before I even moved in! Hallways are dirty and filled bugs! Holes in the back of my cabinets, the water heater is in my closet and is about to fall out the ceiling! My shower doesn’t drain so I have to kick the water in the drain for about 5 mins after my shower! Floor is uneven, also two different tiles and they promised me a clean renovated unit yeah no, there was still stuff left from the previous tenant, stains on the floors and doors! I could go on! DO NOT MOVE HERE

I cannot stress enough, simply don’t live here. Place is disgusting, trash and bugs everywhere. Hallways smell of animal (or human) urine, curry, mold. Oh you think you should put in a maintenance request? Lol have fun with Carley in the office, she’ll ignore everything you say and do nothing but mark thingns completed . Let’s talk about amenities…. Pool was closed for the last month of summer due to painting. There are two common areas, but they are restricted to being open during leasing office hours which makes literally no sense. You might save$20 a month by living here but you’ll hate your life. Simply don’t do it

This was the first place I’ve ever lived all by myself. The leasing office was so helpful in me getting this apartment. There are bugs, but they keep the hallways very clean. The maintenance people are great at their job. I’m able to be close to my school, and experience living in uptown. I would say if your not from a city you might feel uncomfortable here. But I would say as someone who grew up in a big city this place feels so safe. And I’ve never had a package stolen. For my price point I don’t think I would live anywhere else in Charlotte

I contacted the leasing office and Carley promptly returned my call. She did absolutely everything she could to help me! Not only did she get everything done quickly but more importantly she was kind and I could tell she genuinely wanted to help. Great experience! Nice to see from apartment company management :)

Overpriced dump with awful management that is taking away our amenities one by one until everyone moves out.

Today, MAA Gateway sent out an email that they will be eliminating package delivery and closing the package delivery locker available to residents permanently. This means that residents must now drive or take public transportation several miles to a package carrier location in order to pick up packages. This is a reflection of the subpar and frugal management of this complex by MAA, and similar measures have been taken at MAA properties around the area. This is absolutely unacceptable.

Thank you for your review. We truly understand your frustration as this is an unanticipated adjustment. We are doing all possible to help ease this transition. On October 4th, the property management office communicated various options for receiving packages with specific links and addresses to the closest options to our community. If you would like that information, please reach out to our property manager and we are happy to connect with you. We truly value your feedback and appreciate your patience as we make this adjustment.

I had limited time looking for a new apartment. The communication can be hard with some leasing agents/managers but Carley helped me along the way. She made sure she explained everything correctly! I recently signed a new lease and will be moving in the upcoming week.

Deflect responsibility, don't compensate for extreme inconveniences, sometimes even disrespectful. The only good thing about this complex is the unit itself. Too bad none of the appliances work correctly and I'm constantly being told my issues are "unfixable". Maintenance people are nice at least.

Apartment quality poor, water damage and appliances don't work. Pool is ridiculously loud in the summer, as well as the hallways on weekends. Elevator and halls smell terrible. Overpriced and parking is a nightmare.

Management changed its system for package delivery. Packages are now tossed in a mailroom indiscriminately. If you receive a package it could be anywhere in that room. People search for their packages, tossing other people's packages around the room. It is a mess. I have asked for help because I have arthritis and need to have hip surgery. I am in pain and I do not have the strength to lift around 50 packages in search of mine. Sometimes I get help from other tenants. Recently, I was told by management to "contact the delivery company and ask them to find where my package was left". I have asked if there is someone I can hire, and pay, to help me retrieve my packages to no avail. I am wondering if I should deduct from my rent and hire an outside company to help me retrieve my packages or, in the alternative, consider this a constructive eviction in order to break my lease and move.

Stay away from this apartment complex by all means necessary. Last night about 20 cars got broken into inside the resident parking lot and the leasing office is not going to do anything about it. Garbage tends to pile up at the dumpsters and their second building across from the leasing office is filthy ( see for yourself and ask for a tour). Theres is a reason why rent is a little lower than other complex. If you dont mind dealing with crime and filthynesss, then this will be the place for you! Wish I could post pictures here!

I have been here for about 6 months and I have already witnessed numerous crimes. The area less than 100 yards away from my building is subsidized housing and can sometimes be unsafe. One night I heard two people get shot and possibly killed. I even heard the screams of the people who got shot, that is how close I live. Numerous police and ambulances rushed to the scene. Another morning around 9am I was trying to go to work but cop cars blocked the exit for me to leave. I was not allowed to leave until 2 hours later. I later found out that police attempted to serve a warrant to someone in the house behind my building. The man inside barricaded himself inside the house. Police surrounded the house with snipers and guns. Three nights ago I heard commotion of what sounded like a brawl. Minutes later gunshots started to go off followed by a ton of police sirens. Not to mention the parking lot behind the building is horrible and there is never spots open after 9pm. I would not recommend living here.
In general Post properties are my favorite apartments. The reason is simply because of price. Other apartments build in internet, cable, and vallet garbage into your rent forcing you to pay for things you may not want. Post doesn't do that and even without that consideration Post's rent is pretty cheap. If you are in Post Gateway's main building the building is very nice and the parking garage is great due to it being Bank of America's garage. However, if you are not in the main building the building is only ok and the parking spaces in the garage are too small. Post Gateway is within walking distance to Uptown (15-20 mins) or you can take the trolley. Post Gateway is also right next to Johnson and Whales so that means there is 24/7 security nearby and because it is Bank of America's parking garage there is also 24/7 security in the garage (security guards walk around 24/7). Post ammenities include: pool, gym, washing room, business room with free coffee, and a bathroom downstairs. Post is great about responding to maintenance requests; is done to the next day or if a part needs to be ordered you are informed and done very soon. The downsides to Post Gateway are: visitor parking is extremely limited to the point it practically doesn't exist, not all rooms have a washer/dryer (either have to rent or use the ones downstairs), gyms don't have Wifi, and lease has harsh restrictions on leaving. Overall I would recommend Post Gateway or any Post property; it is the cheapest apartment you will be able to find.
